Arsenal Braced For “Notable” Sale Ahead Of Busy Summer, Journalist Predicts

David Ornstein expects activity in and out of N7…

Arsenal selling one of their top players to fund a recruitment drive this summer cannot be ruled out, that’s the view of the reliable David Ornstein.

As a disappointing domestic season peters to a close without any chance of silverware, patience is wearing thin for this project and the lack of investment across the last two transfer windows.

The area of the pitch that requires significant improvement doesn’t need much discussion, with the forward line constantly letting us down at the business end of the season.

Arteta has only spent a transfer fee on two bonafide forwards since he joined in 2019 – Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus. Bukayo Saka has carried the attack on his back until his hamstring literally burst.

Having published healthy finances until May 2004 and further helped the books with a record summer of sales last season, a huge investment in our forward department is anticipated.

Ornstein believes that will invariably have knock-on effects for other members of the squad as the club attempts to improve on their player trading capabilities.

“I think if Arsenal are going to commit huge expense on a striker & if Zubimendi gets done, it’s surely inevitable there needs to be resource raised from a sale or multiple,” the journalist said on The Athletic’s Q&A section.

“It wouldn’t shock me to see a notable player depart this summer.”

Had he been fit, Gabriel Jesus would’ve been a likely candidate to depart given his hefty wage packet which stands at north of £200,000 per-week.

It means that our left flank will come under sharp focus with neither Gabriel Martinelli nor Trossard making that position their own over the past 18 months.

The Mirror reported last month that Martinelli is attracting interest from Saudi Arabia and if those PIF-backed clubs come knocking, the 23-year-old and the club will have a decision to make.
