Michael Oliver’s mishap addressed by Romesh…
Arsenal fan and famous comedian Romesh Ranganathan lambasted Michael Oliver’s decision to send off Myles Lewis-Skelly, labelling it as “disgusting”.
Lewis-Skelly was shown a straight red as he attempted to stop a counter-attack by tripping Matt Doherty, an incident we’ve never seen that sort of punishment for.
Mikel Arteta’s men rallied to claim all three points as we maintained our slender title hopes to end our Premier League drought and catch Liverpool.
Riccardo Calafiori, who was brought on at half-time to fill the left-back role left vacant due to the sending-off, guided home a wonderful half-volley in the only goal of the game.
As the fallout from the clash at the Molineux continues, Romesh couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw Oliver brandish the red and criticised how quickly he drew for the card.
“He showed the red before the tackle happened,” the popular presenter joked on the Seaman Says podcast.
“He was absolutely buzzing to get that card out, absolutely disgusting. Unbelievable!”
Lewis-Skelly’s three-match ban has since been removed by an independent panel after it reviewed Arsenal’s appeal for only 24 hours.
The swiftness of the panel’s decision has only highlighted how unfit for duty the PGMOL is and the need to revamp the way this league is officiated.
The Premier League’s brand has been built on the best in class in their field operating in the organisation, so why not have the best referees from Europe?
