Lewis-Skelly sparkles on England duty…

Arsenal starlet Myles Lewis-Skelly put on a startling display on his England debut as the Three Lions kicked off their World Cup qualifying campaign with a win.

The Hale End graduate opened the scoring to become the youngest England player to score on his debut, justifying Thomas Tuchel’s decision to call him up.

Left-back has been a problem position for the national side in recent years and having made his first-team debut at club level in September, Lewis-Skelly is now the owner of the England berth in that role.

The 18-year-old’s performance comes amid a backdrop of disgusting – albeit unsurprising – abuse levelled at him for simply existing.

The media coverage of him has fueled that social media abuse since he dared to celebrate a goal against Manchester City last month.

Lewis-Skelly has shrugged all that negativity off and produced a stunning display on arguably the proudest moment of a footballer’s career.

While many continue to speculate about the teenager’s position and where he played in the academy, left-back is certainly his specialist role in senior football.

Given the disparity in the level of competition, it’s not uncommon for a young player to play a completely different position than one he was accustomed to at the youth level.

A certain Trent Alexander-Arnold was also a midfielder during his academy days and is now the most renowned full-back in world football.

Check out the comments below as Arsenal fans revelled in Lewis-Skelly’s impressive England debut.
