Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has been offered the Bordeaux job following the controversial departure of former Chelsea midfield Gus Poyet, Sky Sports News reports.

Henry left Sky during the summer in a move designed to focus on his coaching career and pursuing a path to landing himself the top job at a club.

The legendary Gunner is currently the assistant coach to Roberto Martinez’s Belgium national team and it was telling that he was the only member of staff who hadn’t extended his contract on the eve of the World Cup.

He was briefly linked with the head coach role at Arsenal to replace Arsene Wenger, though it was highly unlikely that he would’ve been given the nod given his lack of hands-on experience.

Henry has often been criticised, mainly by Arsenal fans, for his apparent lack of enthusiasm to fully commit to a coaching role given his lucrative contract at Sky.

It led to his departure from our U18s last season, with Wenger intervening to claim that holding both roles was a direct conflict of interests.

France’s greatest goalscorer has since responded by leaving Sky and actively looking for a senior role and he’s now on the brink of joining Bordeaux.

The Ligue 1 club haven’t got the best of reputations at the moment given their indifferent owners and Poyet’s criticism of the club’s transfer activity.

Their marquee player Malcom was sold to Barcelona during the summer and the Uruguayan was obviously frustrated at a failure to adequately replace him.

That could be a deal-breaker for Henry.
