Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes Arsene Wenger is certain to stay now given that the club hasn’t offered him the opportunity to say ‘goodbye’ with an announcement.
Henry claimed that he’d like to think that after 21 years at a football club, his former manager deserves a proper send-off and shouldn’t be cast off through the back door.
However, Wenger unusually refused to get involved in the lap of appreciation following our final game against Everton on Sunday; he refused to clarify his future.
The boss raised further doubt by continuously referring to the team as “they” rather than “we” when speaking about next season’s prospects.
“I would like to think that if he wasn’t going to be there and he knew about it, he would have said it before so people would have given him a proper ‘bye-bye’,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“That’s why I think he’s going to stay.”
That seems like a sensible theory, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that’s how Wenger sees his fairytale exit playing out in his mind.
Speaking about his potential retirement in 2015, Wenger stated that once he decides that the end has come, it will be an “instinctive and impulsive” decision (via The Telegraph).
Also, given that he very rarely likes to be the centre of attention, it may very well be that Wenger has managed his last league game as Arsenal boss.
Especially if, as they say, the board will decide his future at next month’s board meeting.
