Arsenal are reportedly leading the pack to sign Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak…
Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to land Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak as Mikel Arteta looks to finally strengthen the centre-forward position, El Nacional reports.
While we’ve been linked to a whole host of strikers since Arteta’s arrival, we have been unable to make any moves in the market due to the plethora of options at the club.
However, throughout his two-year tenure, Arteta has never settled on one central striker and we always got the sense that the profile he wants in that role would need to be sourced externally.
Now, with both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah likely to leave the club for free next summer, coupled with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s exile from the squad, Arteta can finally go big on a striker in the coming months.
According to The Athletic, Isak has been of ‘long-standing interest’ to the club and one only has to take a quick glance at his qualities to know why.
Isak is a modern centre-forward, one who understands that being a technical focal point and a facilitator is as important as his goal return.
An Isak heatmap would definitely leave you scratching your head as to where he’s actually being deployed.
According to El Nacional, Real Sociedad’s reluctance to sell to rivals Barcelona as well as the Catalan club’s financial position has led to Arsenal being in prime position.
The report claims the Los Txuri-Urdin outfit would be more willing to do business with the Gunners, and even settle on a fee lower than the €90million release clause stipulated in his contract.
The 22-year-old netted 22 times in all competitions for the La Liga side in 2021.
