Arsenal legend David Seaman has slammed Gunners chief Raul Sanllehi and Vinai Venkatesham for putting added pressure on Unai Emery by stressing how important Champions League qualification is to our financial model, our former goalkeeper said on talkSPORT.

Vinai recently claimed that while our financial model isn’t dependent on Champions League football, it is needed if we’re to compete at a higher level.

This season represents our second consecutive season outside Europe’s premier club competition which has led to a restricted budget during the summer transfer window.

We’re currently on a 17-match unbeaten run and looking to end a run of three consecutive Premier League draw once we travel to Bournemouth on Sunday.

For all intents and purposes, Emery is doing a great job and is right in the thick of the race to get top four, which has led to Seaman being annoyed by the big wigs’ latest comments.

“Just let him get on with it,” Seaman said on the Alan Brazil show.

“Don’t put added pressure on, there’s pressure on us anyway.

“If we get into the top four we’ve had a fantastic season but, for me, our best way to get into the Champions League would be to win the Europa League.

“But that isn’t going to be easy because the Champions League teams haven’t come into it yet, it’s a competition that gets harder and harder as it goes on.

“Just let Unai Emery get on with it, he’s doing a great job.

“He’s picked the club up and the team are playing with a lot of confidence, don’t put any added pressure on them.”

Seaman’s sentiments are understandable, but Emery isn’t a manager who has given any indication that he doesn’t like working under the pressure to succeed.

The Spaniard has repeatedly claimed that the demands placed on him at Arsenal only makes his coaching more focused and intense, which filters through to the players.

Also, this is a manager who, in his last post, was given the remit of ‘win the Champions League, or you’re sacked’ – I’m sure he can handle it.
