Arsenal Legend Urges Gunners Players To Repay The Faith Shown By Arsene Wenger

Gilberto Silva is the latest former player to come to the defence of Arsene Wenger…

Arsenal legend Gilberto Silva has levelled blame at the Gunners players for our current predicament with the team on course to claim our worse points total under Arsene Wenger.

Our top four hopes ended a while ago, mainly due to our horrendous away form with the Wenger’s men still looking for their first point on the round in 2018.

It has once against reinvigorated the debate about Wenger and whether or not he should leave this summer, despite having a remaining year left on his deal.

It’s clear that our trajectory as a football club isn’t heading in the right direction, at least in terms of what’s happening on the pitch, yet Gilberto chooses to focus on what’s expected of the players.

“I worked with Wenger for such a long time,” Gilberto told Sky Sports.

“As I know him, he’s a person who loves the game and wants to win things. He sacrifices himself for the players and for the club.

“At the moment things are hard but he’s trying the best he can to handle the pressure and get the best out of his players. All the time the pressure is on him but there comes a time when you have to question what the players can bring back to him because he trusts them.”

It’s become common practice for our former players to come to Wenger’s defence almost naturally, but continuously blaming the players over the years doesn’t make sense.

We’ve had a significant turnover of players over the past decade yet we’re still no closer to winning the league.

Everyone, apart from those still hoping for an employment favour from Wenger, knows where the problem lies.
