Arsenal looking to bolster midfield options…
Arsene Wenger wants to add a new box-to-box midfielder to the squad this summer, Bleacher Report’s Arsenal correspondent James McNicholas, aka Gunnerblog, reports.
Following our shift to a 3-4-3 system, we’ve seen the best of Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey as a partnership, with the duo producing sensational performances against the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.
However, it seems Wenger isn’t entirely convinced regarding our options in that role and is looking to add a further body in there, having been linked with Nice midfielder Jean Seri last week.
Gunnerblog reports that rather than the lack of quality, Wenger may be aware that we’re rather short on numbers in central midfield.
While the list may be long on paper, the likes of Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla cannot be relied upon due to their wretched injury record.
Ramsey himself struggles to complete two games in a week without picking up muscular injuries, which leaves Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin as our only other options.
Regarding the latter, it seems Wenger has finally seen reality and accepted Coquelin will never be good enough for a midfield berth at Arsenal.
A new, powerful central midfielder is certainly welcome at Arsenal ahead of what is going to be a long campaign.
