Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is stepping up his rehabilitation ahead of the new season after posting his latest bike session on Instagram.

Wilshere suffered a fractured fibula while playing for Bournemouth against Spurs, an injury which kept him our for almost the entire 2015/16 season.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a relatively injury-free season at Bournemouth, though he did little to convince us that he deserves an automatic start in our first XI.

With the likes of Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, Aaron Ramsey and Francis Coquelin competing for a place, Wilshere has his work cut out.

What makes Wilshere’s predicament more tricky is his current contractual situation with only 12 months left on his deal.

While it looks bleak for the academy graduate, the idealist in me still hopes Wilshere makes it at Arsenal and one day takes the armband many felt he was destined for.

His ability is undoubted, but modern football requires players to be consistently present in order to compete and Wilshere is struggling in that department.

It seems as though the creative midfielder will now miss the pre-season tour of Australia and China, which means that we can’t rely on him for the start of the new campaign.

Check out Wilshere’s tiring workout in the video above.
