Cedric Soares could be heading to Turkey…
Arsenal full-back Cedric Soares is reportedly nearing a deal to join Besiktas as he enters the final six months of his contract, though it remains to be seen if the move materialises this month, the Daily Mail reports.
Cedric has been an outcast this campaign, only making two appearances in all competitions since he returned from his loan spell at Fulham last season.
The former Southampton man was free to go last summer, but it’s very difficult for potential suitors to match his heft £100k-per-week wage packet.
Cedric joined the club on a free transfer during ‘the Raul Sanllehi era’, and clearly benefited from a deal that never made sense to any sane individual.
Should he move this month, the Portuguese international will save the club €3 million in wages which could prove to be pivotal in Mikel Arteta’s attempts to strengthen the defence.
However, Cedric is free to discuss a move to clubs abroad and even sign a pre-contract agreement for the summer, while still seeing out his lucrative deal.
Given how reluctant he’s been to leave London and the comfortable contract Kia Joorabchian magically conjured up with Sanllehi, one imagines that he’ll wait until the summer to make the move to Turkey.
