The Mirror’s Darren Lewis has claimed that the Arsenal squad is full of players who’ve lost faith in Arsene Wenger after a turbulent summer transfer window.
All the players who were out of contract in 12 months refused to sign extensions, and two have subsequently been sold in Kieran Gibbs and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Jack Wilshere, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil remain in at the club, yet none of the trio look close to extending their current contracts.
Santi Cazorla and Per Mertesacker look set to depart when their contracts also expire.
Darren Lewis also states that Shkodran Mustafi wanted out during the window and was close to a move, while Hector Bellerin reportedly asked for a move to Barcelona when he returned from the U21 Euros.
All is not well at Arsenal, and the Mirror reporter feels their lack of belief in Wenger is the root cause of the issue.
“Kieran Gibbs going to West Brom and saying ‘Tony Pulis will make me a better defender,” the journalist stated as he begins to list the players who’ve expressed discontent.
“Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain going to Liverpool saying: ‘I’m better served taking the next step of my development under Jurgen Klopp rather than Arsene Wenger’.
“That’s before you even get into the transfer business.
“Aaron Ramsey and the social media faux pas that he’s had to explain, using the hashtag ‘shambles’ (in reaction to the Ox’s exit.
“I think you’ve got at Arsenal, a group of players who’ve lost faith in the manager.”
If Darren is right, the evidence will soon show on the pitch with some tough tests to come after the international break.
We host Bournemouth before a trip to the champions Chelsea, with a Europa League clash against FC Koln sandwiched in between.
There’s no time for the half-hearted.
