Balogun has been available for transfer all summer following his return from an explosive loan spell at Ligue 1 side Reims, where the 22-year-old scored 21 league goals.
It was widely reported that the Hale End graduate asked to leave earlier this summer on a permanent deal after not being given assurances that he was set for a prominent role in Mikel Arteta’s side.
While interest in Balogun has been there throughout Europe, Monaco are the only club who’ve firmed up that interest in the form of a bid.
According to The Athletic, Arsenal have already rejected an offer from the Ligue 1 side earlier this month, though talks have always continued.
It’s now being reported that Monaco will return with an improved offer and while a ‘broad agreement’ exists, the structure of the deal still needs to be ironed out.
Balogun’s future has always been intrinsically linked with Eddie Nketiah with the two around the same age and products of our youth academy.
Also, the two marksmen share the same agent which has been quite an awkward situation to navigate.
However, with Nketiah now one of Arteta’s trusted lieutenants in a squad that also contains Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz, Balogun was always going to find opportunities limited.
Hopefully, we can conclude this deal swiftly for a respectable fee and give Arteta every opportunity he needs to potentially strengthen the squad further.
