Arsenal are reportedly set to formalise their interest in Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu with an offer as Mikel Arteta looks to start his rebuilding job, Voetbal International reports.

The links to Kokcu began in March when the Daily Mail reported that the playmaker was seen as a key part of a revolution at Arsenal under Arteta.

A quick glance at his playing style will clarify why our head coach is interested; the Turkish U21 international is comfortable in possession and able to carry the ball through midfield.

Once you realise that Dani Ceballos is only at the club on loan with no option to buy and that next season is likely Mesut Ozil’s last at the club, creativity in midfield is evidently lacking.

The report claims that Arsenal have been working on a deal to bring Kokcu to Arsenal for “a long time” and despite the club’s financial troubles due to the pandemic, this seems like a deal that they can afford.

A fee of around £20million is what it would reportedly take to bring the 19-year-old to north London, as well as fending off interest from La Liga giants Sevilla.

We were left with a rather ageing squad that were on extortionate wages at the end of Arsene Wenger’s tenure which is still hampering the club’s finances, and adding players of Kokcu’s profile is the remedy.
