As Arsenal try and secure the signing of Lucas Torreira, it’s being reported that Aaron Ramsey is close to agreeing a new deal in a move that would secure Unai Emery’s midfield, according to The Telegraph.

Ramsey is out of contract next summer, putting his in an identical predicament to the one we faced last summer with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

This time around, we’re under new management right through the club and it was previously reported that Ramsey wouldn’t be allowed to go into the new season without signing a deal.

While talks are ongoing, an agreement is yet to be reached, though The Telegraph believes the Welshman is close to committing his future and is excited by the prospect of working under Emery.

Ramsey has largely stayed quiet on his future, though he did hint that he had no intention of leaving after he spoke of his excitement at the arrival of Emery earlier this month.

“Of course. I haven’t spoken to him at all yet, but I think it’s an exciting time for the club,” Ramsey said when asked if he’s excited about working with Emery.

“I can’t wait to get back there now,” Ramsey was quoted as saying at the time.

Losing Ramsey at this stage of his career would represent a massive blow given the journey between both the player and the club over the past decade.

He’s now the longest serving player at the club and keeping some familiarity is important.
