Arsenal’s main man Mesut Ozil is back to training with the squad ahead of our Europa League clash against Qarabag after missing our last three games with a suspected back problem.

Ozil has been in and out of the team this season, yet Unai Emery insists that every absence was genuine – with chest infections and back issues the explanations given when the German does disappear.

It led to rumours surfacing of a rift between Emery and Ozil which could’veĀ been predicted considering the former Real Madrid’s man unwillingness to run.

Emery made it clear upon his arrival that each player will need to hunt the ball down when out of possession, and it’s telling that Ozil was left out for highlights win of the season so far.

We destroyed Spurs 10 days ago with a display which had all the hallmarks of what Emery is trying to achieve here. We pressed, competed and were tactically fluid throughout the match.

Emery fuelled the fire in terms of a rife when he couldn’t answer simple questions regarding Ozil’s injury and if he even attended the derby.

Ozil’s wage packet makes it hard to see how this plays out. If he continues to ignore the manager’s request or fail to meet his requirement, can the club even shift him on?

The 30-year-old is the second-highest paid player in the Premier League, a reality which likely haunts the other first-team players.

Emery will probably choose to start Ozil in the Europa League and it’s time for him to win back the trust.
