Alexandre Lacazette sees his season go from bad to worse…
Alexandre Lacazette will spend the next four to six weeks on the sidelines after undergoing minor surgery to cure a knee injury, the club has confirmed.
Lacazette has been the talk of the town in recent weeks, especially since the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and what it meant for his future.
He has since been dropped to the bench and after being thrown on in an attempt to rescue the game against Spurs on Saturday, he missed two great opportunities to salvage a point.
The former Lyon man hasn’t enjoyed the best of times this season and one of the main talking points has been Arsene Wenger’s habit of consistently substituting him.
However, if this knee issue was one that’s been bothering him for a while, it certainly explains those choices and also the 26-year-old’s form.
Also, it may also clarify why Wenger was intent on breaking our transfer record once again to land one of Europe’s most lethal centre-forwards in January.
There was little indication that Lacazette suffered this injury during the derby and if it’s as it looks, this seems like a calculated move from everyone involved.
Lacazette still has hopes of leading France into the World Cup next summer and this procedure gives him a chance to do just that.
However, with Lacazette our only senior recognised striker available for the Europa League, it makes that task a little more difficult.
