Arsenal stars take to social media after huge win…

Arsenal’s 1-0 win against champions Manchester City on Sunday to end an eight-year hoodoo created euphoria around the club and that was certainly reflected by the players’ celebration posts.

Gabriel Martinelli came on at half-time following an injury to Leandro Trossard and the Brazilian certainly had an immediate impact in terms of raising our intensity.

We played much higher up in the second half and pinned the hosts back, though we often lacked the final pass to create clear chances.

It took a route-one move which involved all four of our substitutes to create the chance for Martinelli’s deflected effort that gave us all three points.

The win moved us to joint-top in the Premier League, though at this stage, the psychological lift it gives the team is certainly more important.

All of this was achieved without our best player as Bukayo Saka was deemed unfit to make the matchday squad. Thomas Partey and Martinelli were also only fit enough for the bench.

Mikel Arteta sprung a surprise by naming Jorginho in the starting XI alongside Declan Rice, but the experienced Italian proved him right with a solid display.

This, however, was a game which centred around our defensive work as we limited Man City to just four shots – their lowest ally in a game under Pep Guardiola.

Erling Haaland further highlighted the work of our defensive rearguard with the Norwegian marksman not able to register a single shot for the entire game.
