Arsenal’s decision makers are very interested in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrien Rabiot and will likely make a push to sign him in the summer, BBC’s David Ornstein told the Arsecast podcast.

The French star is remarkably out of contract in June and has reportedly informed the Ligue 1 champions that he does not intend to sign a new contract, according to ESPN.

Rabiot was said to have been close to joining Barcelona in January, but the Spanish giants opted to sign Ajax’s Frenki De Jong instead with the playmaker joining them in the summer.

Rabiot has been heavily linked with us in the past and was supposedly close to a move in the summer of 2014 and 2015 respectively.

However, that never materialised and the gangly midfielder ended up extending his contract with PSG.

Fast forward four years, it seems our interest has been reignited despite the fact that we have a whole new regime in charge of the club.

According to David Ornstein, Raul Sanllehi will favour a more contact-based method of recruitment and with Rabiot enjoying his football under Unai Emery, the club is interested in that deal.

There are now a few decision-makers at the club with its new structure, but Ornstein claims that the hierarchy is unanimous in their idea that Rabiot should be a target.

Having said that, the BBC reporter did state that there are a few obvious stumbling blocks for us to overcome. Firstly, Rabiot representatives are notoriously difficult to work with and they may be the reason behind his failed move to Barcelona.

Also, as a Bosman transfer, his wage demands are likely to be substantial. Either way, it’s exciting to see the club targeting this calibre of player.
