Arsenal interested in Sverre Nypan…
Arsenal are battling it out with some of Europe’s top clubs for the signature of wonderkid Sverre Nypan with a decision on his future said to be ‘imminent’, TV2 reports.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein cited our interest in the talented playmaker earlier this month as the club continues to scour Europe for the best talent.
Nypan has registered 15 goal involvements for Rosenborg this season in Norway’s top flight, a respectable output for an 18-year-old. The Norwegian has been likened to Martin Odegaard in terms of his fast-tracked career in senior football.
According to TV2, a move to the Premier League is likely this January with Rosenborg seeking £10 million this winter – though the likes of Manchester City are also keeping tabs on him.
A small glimpse of Nypan’s highlights will reveal why the top clubs like him – his unique style of profile is difficult to recruit in modern football.
The teenager is both-footed, almost to the level of Santi Cazorla, and is capable of bursting past the opposition which is rare to see for a central midfielder.
It’s a tactical weapon few have and, as we’ve seen with Jack Wilshere in the past, taking players out of the game in a central areas will open all sorts of gaps in the opposition’s defensive structure.
One suspects that a call between Nypan’s handlers and Martin Odegaard would’ve occurred given the latter’s importance and stature in his homeland.
Youngsters across the continent often decide to move to a club viewed by many as a ‘stepping stone’ in search of first-team minutes to continue their development.
However, considering our record of improving young players, Nypan exposing himself to top-level competition on a day-to-day basis will allow him to realise his level rapidly.
