Arsenal are still solid defensively…
Arsenal continue to prove to be a sound defensive side despite a stuttered start to our Premier League campaign that leaves us behind the pace in the title race.
According to Cannon Stats, Arsenal top the league in fewest ‘big chances’ conceded, averaging 1.5 per match so far this campaign.
Arsenal are 3rd in big chances created per match this season, averaging 3.3 per match.
Arsenal are BEST in big chances allowed per match this season, averaging 1.5 per match.

We’ve conceded 15 goals in as many games, meaning we’re being punished for almost every ‘big chance’ we allow on goal – something that surely can’t continue.
Our superb Premier League campaign last year was due to a solid base to build from and while we scored the most goals in our history in the competition, Mikel Arteta takes pride in our defensive work.
Most of the negative feeling among the fanbase is essentially guided by some of the games we played with 10 men earlier this campaign – especially those against Bournemouth and Brighton.
We dropped five points in those games and we’re now six points behind league leaders Liverpool. Those points would’ve painted an entirely different picture.
In terms of our issues at the other end of the pitch, it does feel like that can only be solved by delving into the transfer market.
Arteta and the recruitment team have made hefty investments in the defensive area of the pitch and that needs to be replicated at the top-end if we’re to cure our profligacy.
