Mikel Merino move looks like it’s in the ‘end game’…
Arsenal are reportedly on the verge of completing a deal to sign Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad with talks ongoing regarding the structure of the deal, that’s according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 28-year-old has been a key figure for the La Liga side, known for his versatility, passing range, and ability to contribute both defensively and offensively. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, has been keen on adding a dynamic presence to his midfield, and Merino fits the bill perfectly.
The Gunners have been monitoring Merino for some time, and reports suggest that the club has finalised personal terms with the player. The deal could be sealed in the coming days, with Merino expected to provide a significant boost to Arsenal’s midfield options. His arrival would bring much-needed depth and competition to a squad that is aiming to challenge for top honours in both domestic and European competitions.
Merino, who previously had a stint in the Premier League with Newcastle United, has matured significantly since then, becoming one of the standout midfielders in Spain. His ability operate in the left-eight role for club and country makes him a more natural replacement to Granit Xhaka.
Meanwhile, on the outgoing front, Marseille has reportedly resumed talks with Arsenal regarding a potential move for striker Eddie Nketiah. The move seemed to hit a snag after the Ligue 1 side had a second offer rebuffed in the region of €27 million.
Marseille momentarily explored other options – at least that’s what they were projecting to the public – with approaches made to RC Lens for forward Elye Wahi.
However, with personal terms agreed with the England international, Les Olympiens probably feel an obligation to follow through with this deal and bring Nketiah to France.
As negotiations progress on both fronts, Arsenal fans will be eagerly awaiting confirmation of these deals, which could significantly shape the club’s fortunes in the upcoming season.
