Arsenal have two medical books at London Colney on Monday according to BBC Sport’s David Ornstein as Unai Emery puts the finishing touches to his squad.

Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira jetted in from Russia following the South American side’s quarter-final exit to complete a move which has been one of football’s worse kept secrets.

Torreira will be joined by Lorient youngster Matteo Guendouzi who also operates in the holding midfielder role, proving that a player with potential in that position was always on Unai Emery’s wishlist.

A move for Paris Saint-Germain teenager Yacine Adli brokedown and the 17-year-old eventually decided to extend his contract with the French champions.

Guendouzi is an alternative, but the midfield destroyer is more advanced in his development and it will be interesting to see if Emery sees him as a first-team addition.

In Torreira we’re getting a sensational player, one of the revelations at the World Cup and one who embodies all the qualities we’ve been lacking in midfield.

Standing at just 5’6”, the 22-year-old makes up for his lack of physical presence with an intuitive sense of where the ball will end up and win back possession.

With these two additions, it seems Emery has addressed all the areas of concern in the defensive third of the pitch in what appears a deliberate tactic.

We are lacking in wide players, but it was always going to take a few windows for us to correct all the areas our squad has flaws in.
