Arsenal linked with a mammoth deal for Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic…
Arsenal are reportedly working on a deal to sign Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic despite the steep financial package required to bring the striker to north London, the Daily Mail reports.
Vlahovic is one of the most in-demand players in Europe and operates in a position that needs urgent attention from the recruitment team given the predicament we find ourselves in.
Two of our centre-forward options, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract in June with no sign of imminent extensions, while former club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is still exiled from the team.
According to the report above, it would take a package of £150million to bring the in-form 21-year-old striker to the Emirates Stadium – a figure that includes his wages and agent fees.
Finances haven’t been a problem for us since KSE took full ownership of the club, though one wonders if such an outlay on an unproven striker is wise.
Vlahovic has scored 18 goals this season, only Robert Lewandowski has more goals in Europe’s top five leagues. However, given his age, it’s difficult to ascertain whether or not this is the start of a great career or a purple patch.
Also, according to the Daily Mail, Vlahovic and his agent will need convincing – as well as a big wad of cash – to put the wheels in motion for this deal.
Arteta has previously wanted to guard against the need to sell himself to a player and their representatives, believing that the stature of our club should be enough of an attraction.
“I don’t think we should bring players that need a lot of convincing,” Arteta said ahead of his first summer transfer window in 2020 (via The Guardian).
Let’s see if he stays true to those principles.
