Myles Lewis-Skelly seems more mature than some of the fanbase…

Arsenal teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly posted a message on his social media profile reacting to the hysteria among fans online at not seeing the midfielder handed his debut against Lens in midweek.

Arteta named talented academy graduates Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri in the matchday squad with the boss unable to call upon several senior midfielders.

Fabio Vieira has recently undergone a procedure on his grown and joined fellow long-term absentees Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe in the treatment room.

Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly only recently returned to London from Indonesia where they competed in the U17 World Cup with England, exiting at the last-16 stage.

After Arteta’s men raced to a 5-0 lead at half-time – a new record for an English side in the Premier League – many anticipated wholesale changes and an opportunity to see the youngsters introduced.

Nwaneri has already made his debut after becoming the youngest player to play in the Premier League when Arteta brought him on at Brentford last year.

Lewis-Skelly is still looking for his senior debut and after signing a new professional contract this season following his 17th birthday, he’s certainly heading in the right direction.

Rather predictably, Arteta decided against giving the teenagers a runout and instead chose to prioritise his senior squad members, giving minutes to Eddie Nketiah, Ben White, Jakub Kiwior, Reiss Nelson and Jorginho.

It led to a bizarre level hysteria from fans online, and it needed a post online from Lewis-Skelly to clarify his feelings following his inclusion in Wednesday’s squad.

It’s fine, I’m patient,” the Hale End graduate posted on Instagram.

“It’s a process, keep continuing to work hard.”

It speaks volumes about the world we live in when a 17-year-old is showing more maturity than a section of the fanbase online.
