Jack Wilshere accepts that he should’ve won us the game at West Ham after he skied his effort from yards out in a game which further dented our top four hopes.

Wilshere saw the ball drop to him from an Olivier Giroud knock-down, but the England midfielder blazed over with his weak foot minutes before full-time.

We also got out of jail with the last kick of the game after Chicharito’s effort cannoned off the crossbar and almost crossed over the goal line.

The 25-year-old accepted that we could’ve gifted all three points away in the final moments, but he stressed that we were in control for most of the game.

“I think we did enough to take home three points. I felt we deserved it, really. We were in control, apart from that little chance at the end when we made a mistake. They didn’t really have much,” Wilshere told BT Sport.

“We dealt with their counter-attack threat, we knew they were going to do that. We dealt with that well. We just needed to be a little bit more decisive in the final third.”

When asked if he should’ve handed us all three points, Wilshere agreed: “I haven’t seen it back. It happened really quick and it was on my weaker right foot but I should have done better.”

Wilshere started his first Premier League game for Arsenal since May 2016, and the playmaker was arguably our best player on the night.

His contract situation continues to dominate the column inches and one hopes that his future is sorted rather swiftly this month.
