Tierney is out of contract in the summer and while rumours have been rife of a potential exit this January window, he’s been reintegrated back into the squad by Mikel Arteta.
The 27-year-old was turned to by the manager in the final minutes of the clash at Wolves to see the result, ahead of the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior.
Tierney’s only start this season came in the third round of the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace last month and, on that occasion, it seemed like an opportunity to say goodbye to the Emirates faithful.
The Scottish international’s performance gave fans a hint of nostalgia, it had been a while since we’ve seen a traditional full-back tearing down the touchline.
Arteta admitted that he’d no longer ask Tierney to invert given how uncomfortable he is with that role, and the former Celtic man’s relationship with Leandro Trossard in that game looked fluid.
I’m curious how big of a role Tierney will play for the remainder of the season with his natural ability to defend wide spaces a potential tool for us – especially in the Champions League.
