Nuno Tavares set for a loan move to Marseille…
Arsenal full-back Nuno Tavares is closing in on a loan move to Marseille as Mikel Arteta looks to trim his squad following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko, the Daily Express reports.
Marseille’s interest in Tavares dates back a few weeks, with David Ornstein reporting that a loan move was possible if we brought in a player in that position.
🚨 Marseille keen to sign Nuno Tavares on loan (as @Santi_J_FM revealed) & Arsenal will consider sanctioning 22yo left-back’s temporary exit if they manage to recruit in defence – Lisandro Martinez of Ajax the priority target @TheAthleticUK #AFC #OM #Ajax https://t.co/JM0HnnItI5

While Lisandro Martinez was the primary target at the time, we have since switched gears and brought in four-time Premier League winner Zinchenko.
It means, with Kieran Tierney nearing full fitness, we now have quite the overload in that left-back area and with Tavares struggling in his first full season at the club, playing elsewhere on a weekly basis could do his development a world of good.
According to various reports, Arsenal are unwilling to include a buy option in any loan deal – be it obligatory or an optional one – which illustrates that the club still see a long-term future for the Portuguese starlet.
Rumours will continue to be rife about outgoings after Arteta admitted that the focus at this stage of the window is clearing the squad of some numbers.
