Thomas Partey set for imminent return…

Arsenal are set for a huge injury boost with midfielder Thomas Partey set to return to full training this week and is eyeing a place in Mikel Arteta’s squad for the clash against Nottingham Forest, according to reporter Charles Watts.

Partey has been sidelined with a thigh injury, picked up during a training session before our Champions League clash at Sevilla in October.

The 30-year-old has suffered identical injuries to his thigh since he arrived in north London three-and-a-half years ago and has now undergone an operation to rectify the issue.

The procedure ruled Partey out of the African Cup of Nations this month with the Ghana skipper unable to aid his nation as they crashed out at the group stage.

Now, with an extensive break before our next Premier League fixture out the City Ground due to our FA Cup elimination, the plan is for Partey to make the squad for that game.

According to Watts, Partey will take part in full training this week and should he come through unscathed and without a reaction, he’ll be back in a matchday squad for the first time since our 2-2 draw at Chelsea.

Considering his lengthy absence, one imagines that Arteta will want to ease Partey back into action, though that will be tested shortly.

A home game against league-leaders Liverpool follows our trip to Nottingham and with a five-point gap between us and Jurgen Klopp’s side, claiming all three points in that fixture is imperative.

We’d certainly stand a better chance of winning the game should we partner Partey and Declan Rice together in midfield, something we’ve been unable to do since the Community Shield in August.
