Arsene Wenger remains consistent on Alexis Sanchez…
Arsene Wenger has once again insisted that Alexis Sanchez will remain an Arsenal player this summer despite having just a year remaining on his contract.
Alexis has so far failed to agree on a contract extension, with reports suggesting that the Chilean has his heart set on a reunion with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
The 28-year-old is currently enjoying an extended break following his Confederations Cup excursions during the summer and with the squad away in Australia on a pre-season tour, Wenger’s stance has remained consistent.
“That’s in the continuity of what I said at the end of the season; that’s what we will do,” Wenger told the press.
To be fair to the boss, he seems unmoved by the nature of Alexis’ contractual situation and has been adamant all summer that Alexis will be made to stay for the final year of his contract.
Unlike other situations we’ve seen elsewhere, it doesn’t seem like Alexis is keen to force through the move – probably due to the powerful position he’ll be in next summer.
Selling Alexis to Manchester City can never be seen as an option, even if we’re able to find a possible replacement.
We need to add to his talents if we’re serious about challenging for the league next season.
