Arsene Wenger Admits That Arsenal Must Undergo Major Clear Out

Arsene Wenger eyeing major clear out…

Arsene Wenger has admitted that the current squad is too big and that a number of players would have to leave this summer in a much-needed clear out.

Following our Community Shield win against Chelsea, the boss had to leave a few players out due fitness reasons, while a host of players wasn’t included in the matchday squad due to their precarious futures.

Lucas Perez, Kieran Gibbs, Jack Wilshere, Mathieu Debuchy and Carl Jenkinson are all yet to feature in pre-season with many expecting those players to depart before the window slams shut.

Wenger agreed with the reporter that having 33 first-team squad members isn’t a good idea.

“To be honest it is too high,” Wenger told reporters.

“We will let some players go because too much competition for places is detrimental.

“Not enough competition for places is detrimental as well. I agree that 33 [sic] is too high.”

It seems as though no further signings will be made unless we can find clubs for these players, which will have one stumbling block for each separate case.

Given’s Wenger’s socialist wage policy, a number of our average players are paid above their market rate and are unwilling to take pay cuts to join other clubs.

It’s exactly why players such as Debuchy and Jenkinson don’t mind rotting in the reserves on their current salaries.
