Arsene Wenger has admitted that he misses the rivalry with Sir Alex Ferguson after defeating his son in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Darren Ferguson’s side put up a hell of a fight at the Emirates Stadium, and we were very unlucky not to force extra-time as David Ospina was called into action.
The home fans around the ground were certainly restless as the boys failed to keep up the intensity showed int he opening half.
Theo Walcott chipped home what turned out to be a winner and with Ferguson senior in the stands to cheer on his son’s side, Wenger was asked to take a trip down memory lane in his post-match press conference.
“I invited him tonight,” Wenger joked about Sir Alex.
“Sport is very good in that you fight against each other and with respect.
“He was a big personality in the Premier League. But I still meet him sometimes in the European meetings.”
Wenger and Ferguson are regularly called upon by UEFA to attend elite coaches forums to discuss how to make the game better, a conference they’ve attended for over a decade.
In terms of their battles on the pitch, the first seven years of Wenger’s tenure will go down as one of the greatest rivalries we’ve seen between two entities in Premier League history.
