Arsene Wenger sets targets for Alex Iwobi…

Arsene Wenger says he expects Alex Iwobi to score 10 goals and add a further 10 assists this season in a bid to improve his end product in the final third.

Iwobi netted the second goal in our 2-0 win against Brighton on Sunday and while Wenger saw it as a good start, the boss believes the playmaker can still do more.

Iwobi is now competing in his third season within the first-team set-up and after proving that he’s comfortable with our interplay, he’s lacking the killer instinct required from an Arsenal forward.

The Nigerian international only netted three league goals last season and with Danny Welbeck out with a groin injury, being ruthless in front of goal is what’s needed if he’s to stay in the team.

“He’s the kind of player who has a good availability, helps you a lot to get out of pressure when you’re in the build-up game and creates spaces,” Wenger told reporters after the game.

“But what you want from him is the final balls and goals as well. A player like him must score 10 goals [this season] and he must as well give between six and 10 assists. That’s what I want of him.”

Iwobi’s rare league start came due to Mesut Ozil’s sudden absence and while he may not be afforded many opportunities in the league, Wenger didn’t specify which competition he expected him to score in.

Getting into double figures in terms of goals and assists is certainly feasible when you consider the number of games Iwobi is likely to feature in all competitions.

The target has been set, Alex!
