Arsene Wenger heaps praise on Alexandre Lacazette…
Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on Alexandre Lacazette after the Frenchman scored his first Arsenal goals 15 minutes after coming on against Sydney FC.
Lacazette, our record signing at £52million, couldn’t have made a better impression after such a huge price-tag as he poked home from Alex Iwobi’s cutback.
Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott started the game in the forward positions and the two England international looked like they wouldn’t have found the net if they played for another 24 hours.
Mesut Ozil was in sensational form with his creative passes, buzzing around the pitch to create angles, though the frustrations in front of goal remained.
Lacazette’s finish, though it was rather simple, has justified exactly why signing a striker was necessary this summer.
“It’s never a coincidence when people score goals, they’re in the right place at the right moment,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.
“It’s good that he scores straight away because people wait for you to score when you’re a striker.”
As the squad continues to understand Lacazette’s movements, his contributions to the team will only grow.
Wenger has previously said that a striker is the least destabilising department of the squad and one that doesn’t need much time to gel, but that has since been disproven in the modern game.
Strikers are required to become creators as well as finishers, and Lacazette will need to develop an almost telepathic understanding with his teammates if he’s to succeed.
