Arsene Wenger speaks on our summer plans…
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that our international stars are likely to miss the start of the season after being given an extended break following their summer exertions.
The likes of Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud all made it to the final week of Euro 2016, while Alexis Sanchez win the Copa America once again with Chile.
Wenger was adamant that these players need four weeks holiday, but also challenge them to return with a high level of hunger to deliver for Arsenal immediately.
“I believe that they need four weeks’ holiday because they need to recover from that,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.
“It takes you two or three weeks to regenerate… to recover completely, and they need to come back with hunger.”
Having managed a number of post-summer tournament campaigns, Wenger should really be prepared for what may occur the early weeks of the new season.
What we must avoid is a repeat of how we started the 14/15 campaign, where a ‘post-World Cup’ hangover was blamed while Chelsea stormed away with the title.
