Arsene Wenger has backed former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere to succeed in Turkey if the move to Fenerbahce goes through as some outlets are suggesting.
According to beIN SPORTS Turkey, Wilshere is close to signing for the Turkish giants on a free as he seeks a new club for the first time in his career.
English players moving abroad has been a trend in recent years with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Chris Willock and Marcus McGuane moving to other top European clubs respectively.
Wenger told beIN SPORTS Turkey that Fenerbahce would be getting a top-class player who’s aided by an intelligent football brain.
“Jack Wilshere is a playmaker, a little Messi-style player, and he’s a bit like Mbappe because he started playing from the age of 17 and had extraordinary talent,” the former Arsenal boss said.
“Unfortunately he has been stopped very early due to injury on the ankle, but I believe that he has become fit again.
“He can pass people, can give the final ball, has a fantastic football brain, and he’s a great guy too.”
I for one would’ve liked to have seen Wilshere stay in England and watch his progress on a weekly basis, but if the 26-year-old is seeking an uncomfortable environment to continue his football then that is admirable.
