Arsene Wenger called on fans to stay behind the team for the entire season next term, even when we eventually go through a difficult patch.

Wenger oversaw the most tumultuous of seasons last campaign, with fans constantly calling for his head as the team crashed out of the title race and European football in embarrassing fashion.

Our form in the spring was unlike anything we’d seen in the Wenger-era, and it led to deep splits among the fan base which definitely transferred onto the pitch.

The boss’ contract situation didn’t help, and he has since admitted that an announcement should’ve been made sooner and that it eventually cost us our place in the Champions League.

However, ahead of the new season, Wenger is looking to heal old wounds and wants fans to stick with him.

“It is a dream to make the fans happy – a difficult dream,” Wenger told BT Sport.

“We try very hard, I would like that they stand behind the team; because we might go through some good periods and some less good periods.

“We want to be united and together through the season, and hopefully we can make them happy at the end of the season.”

Wenger will know that he’ll only be judged on results and can certainly not afford to see the team through a run like we witnessed at the backend of last season.

The club stated that winning the league was the only objective after handing Wenger a new deal, it’s now time to prove that.
