Rio Ferdinand accused the Arsenal players of letting Arsene Wenger down with their individual mistakes as we suffered our first league defeat at home for almost 12 months against Manchester United.

Ferdinand singled out Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny, whose errors led to all three of Man United’s goals, as the two culprits of ruining Wenger’s game-plan.

Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard made us pay for both errors inside the first 15 minutes, leaving us with a mountain to climb in order to salvage our unbeaten record.

Mustafi hobbled off with an injury and Wenger replaced him with Alex Iwobi, a statement of intent which sparked an onslaught on David De Gea’s goal.

For Ferdinand, our lack of efficiency at both ends of the pitch cannot be blamed on Wenger.

“Wenger didn’t lose this game,” the six-time Premier League winner said on BT Sport.

“Arsenal created chance after chance. They put the keeper under immense pressure.

“Individual mistakes cost Arsenal. Mustafi and Koscielny have taken his game-plan out of his hands.”

After what’s deemed as a dead rubber Europa League clash on Thursday, we travel to a ground we’ve had very little luck at in St Mary’s as we look to bounce back.

Our away form this season has been poor, and we definitely need a fitness booster ahead of back-to-back away trips over the next 10 days.

Check out Ferdinand’s comments in the video above.
