Alexis Sanchez was jeered by some fans as he came on…
Arsene Wenger addressed the boos heard around the Emirates Stadium after Alexis Sanchez was introduced in our 3-0 win against Bournemouth.
It was Alexis’ first appearance at home following a summer of much controversy in which the Chilean wanted to depart for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
While Arsenal stood strong throughout the summer with a “not for sale’ policy, a bizarre turn of events towards the final days of the window saw Alexis close to an exit.
Raheem Sterling and Thomas Lemar were mooted as a replacement, but nothing came of it and Alexis has been forced to stay.
While his ability on this pitch is undoubted, it seems a certain section of the fans still need convincing of his commitment levels.
“We have to accept responses from people,” Wenger told the press.
“I don’t why [some fans booed Sanchez] but the best way to get them on your side is to perform.”
Alexis looked up for it when he came on and almost got on the scoresheet after his stinging effort was parried away by Asmir Begovic.
The Chilean’s commitment levels, as well as his desire to make things happen, will be put to the test next week at Chelsea.
