Arsene Wenger has backed Jack Wilshere to kick on…
Jack Wilshere has been backed to recapture his best form – in time – by Arsene Wenger as he prepares for his first Arsenal appearance since May 2016.
Wilshere returns from a fibula fracture he suffered while on loan at Bournemouth after being on the wrong end of a hefty Eric Dier challenge.
It kept him out for the remainder of last season, although he returned to full fitness during the summer, making a few appearances for the U23s.
The Europa League now represents a good opportunity to stake a claim for a first-team spot, an opportunity which is dwindling by the day as his contract expires in less than 12 months.
“First of all to continue with the spirit with which he works. There was always huge pressure to come back as quickly as possible,” Wenger told the press.
“Overall if he can keep calm, focus on his job, he’s on a good way for me. He’s doing well in training, getting stronger and stronger each day.
“Every game is an opportunity for him, and this season is a good opportunity for him.”
Wilshere has suffered setbacks whenever he seemed to turn a corner, and one can only hope that the bad luck is behind him and that he can salvage his Arsenal career.
The 25-year-old’s injuries have all been impact injuries, something which surely stops at some point.
