Arsene Wenger accepted that the defending wasn’t good enough in our scintillating 4-3 win against Leicester City after Olivier Giroud came on to clinch the three points for us.

Wenger threw on Giroud and Aaron Ramsey to rescue the game after Jamie Vardy’s double put the visitors 3-2 up 20 minutes from time, giving fans a flashback of how we started the campaign 12 months ago.

A win on the opening day was vital for the overall mood as well as for Wenger after his controversial contract extension during the summer.

While his rescue act paid off, Wenger admitted that we cannot afford to concede that number of goals at home in the future.

“When you conceded three goals at home, you think that you cannot afford that and rightly so,” Wenger told Sky Sports after the game.

“We had 27 attempts with 10 or 11 on target, they had three on target and three goals. But, some avoidable goals we conceded tonight.”

Wenger was very quick to switch to a back four when we were in trouble, which only adds to the suspicion that we’ll return to that system sooner rather than later.

It also allowed him to partner Giroud and Alexandre Lacazette up front, with the two compatriots combining well to devastating effect during their time on the pitch together.

Check out Wenger’s post-match interview in the video above.
