Arsene Wenger has revealed that Alexis Sanchez no longer occupies the centre-forward position because he prefers to play out wide.
Alexis was in explosive form during the first part of the season, scoring 12 goals in 19 matches until New Year’s Day as we competed at the top of the table.
However, after suffering back-to-back defeats at the tail end of December, Wenger suddenly moved him back to the left to accommodate the likes of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck.
It has been one of the most bemusing decisions Wenger has taken, and he now explains why that was.
“I believe he’s been exceptional in the first part of the season when he played striker,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.
“It’s a position, funny wise, he doesn’t enjoy too much, he prefers to play more out wide.
“But I liked it when he played centre-forward, he scored many goals.”
Yet again, Wenger doesn’t realise the severity of what he’s just uttered for the world to hear. Alexis Sanchez doesn’t play striker because he doesn’t want to?
Arsene Wenger should decide where certain players play, especially if it’s for the benefit of the team.
Despite playing in his preferred role, Alexis hasn’t exactly set the world on fire. He’s currently on a run of three goals and two assists in his last eight league matches.
Too many issues which are starting to emerge from behind the scenes are not exactly filling us with confidence going forward.
