Arsene Wenger: FA Cup Will Have No Bearing On My Future

Arsene Wenger makes odd admission about his future…
Arsene Wenger stated in his pre-match press conference ahead of our FA Cup semi-final clash against Manchester City that his achievements in the competition will have no bearing on his future.
Wenger has been rather elusive as to which metrics would sway a potential decision either way, yet it seems success – or lack thereof – in the FA Cup is irrelevant.
There was a theory that an FA Cup win coupled with a potential finish in the top four would make it easier to announce a new deal for Wenger, though it seems on-pitch success doesn’t really matter.
“It doesn’t play any part in [determining my future],” Wenger told The Evening Standard’s, James Olley.
“The FA Cup is a very important game for me because it’s the next game and because it’s an opportunity to win a trophy this season.”
That is quite an odd statement to make from Wenger considering the position he’s in. If winning a major trophy doesn’t slightly play a part in determining his future then what will?
It gives credence to the notion that a decision has already been taken behind the scenes with the club just looking for the right time to make an announcement.
Were we to go out to Man City on Sunday and finish outside the top four, the board may well be signing their own death wish by handing Wenger a new two-year deal.
