Arsene Wenger: Giroud Substitution Was “Easy” When You Have That Quality On The Bench

Arsenal boss refuses to take Giroud credit…

Arsene Wenger refused to take any special credit for the introduction of Olivier Giroud after the Frenchman won us all three points for us at Sunderland.

In what was a comfortable afternoon, a couple of mistakes at the back allowed the relegation candidates to win a penalty and level the game as Jermaine Defoe converted.

The boss introduced Giroud immediately and the striker bagged a brace with his first two touches of the game to put his 3-1 ahead in a matter of minutes.

“The manager has easy credit when he has quality players on the bench,” Wenger told SkySports after being asked if he’s seeking any credit.

“You do not need to be a special manager to make this kind of decision.”

Those quotes probably sum up Wenger’s tenure in a nutshell: absorb all the blame when things aren’t going well, and give the players credit when things are going well.
