Arsene Wenger’s future remains unclear…
Arsene Wenger gave a bizarre post-match interview following our final game of the Premier League season against Everton after promising to reveal “one day” why our campaign disintegrated.
Having been challenging at the top end of the table until December, Wenger claimed that a “difficult environment” caused the team to drop off following back-to-back defeats.
Wenger, who didn’t join in with the annual lap of honour, made it clear that Arsenal must keep “90%” of the team together if we’re to stand a chance next season.
The Frenchman quite noticeable referred to the team as “you” rather than “we”, and stopped short of actually clarifying his future yet again.
Though he admits that the lack of clarity surrounding his future affected the players, he couldn’t answer as to why the club didn’t make an announcement during the campaign.
However, Wenger made it clear that he wasn’t protecting anybody as journalists crowded around him as he attempted to leave the press room.
The boss also responded to chants from the fans calling for Stan Kroenke to leave, stating that he wasn’t the reason behind our failure to qualify for the Champions League.
There are too many flashpoints in the full post-match press conference, but it seemed odd considering what we’ve heard from the journalists close to the club in recent weeks.
We get almost a weekly briefing claiming that a two-year deal is virtually done, yet the footage doesn’t concur with such theories given the Frenchman’s coded comments.
He seemed like a man who’s future is still in the balance, and more importantly, firmly out of his hands.
