Arsene Wenger: I No Longer Care About Personal Achievements

Arsene Wenger only looking out for Arsenal’s best interests…

Arsene Wenger took a trip down memory lane ahead of our clash against FC Koln after being asked if he longs for European glory with Arsenal before calling time on his career.

Speaking to BT Sport, Wenger stated that while adding a European trophy to his cabinet would be nice, he’s no longer at a stage where he cares about personal achievements.

The boss has won 10 major trophies at the club, seven FA Cup and three Premier League titles, but is missing a continental title after losing to European Cup finals.

Galatasaray in 2000 and Barcelona in 2006 have proven to be painful moments in Arsenal’s history, though Wenger doesn’t seem to be dwelling on those disappointments.

“I would love to win the Champions League, the Europa League, every single trophy but overall at the moment we are not as far as that,” the boss told BT Sport.

“I’m a little bit less, now, in a competition for my own good.

“I want to do well for the club and win trophies. I can deal with what I have achieved and what I have not achieved.”

As the years dwindle down on his career, it’s rather sombre to see Wenger accept that he may not achieve all he expected to as Arsenal boss.

For a manager who once described winning the Champions League as an “obsession”, our lack of participation in the competition has seen Wenger come to terms that it may not happen.

Especially given that we’re not guaranteed a place next season either after an indifferent start to the season.
