Wenger on Rob Holding: I’m sorry he didn’t cost £55m…
Arsene Wenger took a swipe at the English press following our goalless draw against Leicester City with Rob Holding producing a decent performance in an intense game.
Holding had a difficult start against Liverpool but looked more comfortable alongside the sensational Laurent Koscielny as the pair kept out Jamie Vardy.
Wenger became irritated after the game that the post-match debrief was dominated by the transfer window and not on the game.
“Nobody speaks about the performance of Rob Holding today, you should be happy,” Wenger told the press.
“He’s English, he’s 20-years-old – but I’m sorry he didn’t cost £55m.”
The mentioning of the price seemed to be a slight dig at what Manchester City paid for John Stones, but Wenger seems way off with this accusation.
While Holding’s performance was encouraging, we are still desperately in need of a centre-back. It would be negligent and unfair of a manager to expect such consistent performances from a 20-year-old in England’s top flight.
