Arsene Wenger: Jack Wilshere Is An “Arsenal Man”, But I Can’t Guarantee His Future

Jack Wilshere is fighting for his Arsenal career…

Arsene Wenger admitted that he cannot guarantee Jack Wilshere’s future despite stating that the midfielder loves the club deeply and is an “Arsenal man”.

Wilshere returned to the team against Doncaster in midweek, marking his first Arsenal start since May 2016 and almost 24 months since he last completed 90 minutes for us.

The 25-year-old is out of contract next summer and Wenger has admitted that a new contract is dependent on whether or not Wilshere can prove his fitness.

The playmaker has been at the club his whole life and has made no secret of potentially finishing his career, a goal which is now in serious doubt.

“That is down to – and I said that many times – to the fact that can remain fit or not, you know,” the boss said ahead of our league clash against West Brom.

“I think he’s an Arsenal man, an Arsenal player,” he said. “He certainly would want to, but I don’t know.”

Wenger may want to be careful how he handles this situation because Wilshere has gone on record in the past claiming that he only wants to stay if he feels wanted.

Asking him to prove his fitness is fine, but he may view that as a lack of faith and decide to seek a contract elsewhere while fully fit – a potential nightmare scenario.
