Arsene Wenger has clarified Arsenal’s stance on Alexis Sanchez and is adamant that a decision has been made not to sell Chilean this summer, regardless of which offers come in.
Alexis is currently on holiday after competing in the Confederations Cup with Chile and has so far refused to sign an extension.
The 28-year-old will be out of contract in 12 months time and when in scenarios similar to this in the past, Wenger has always ended up selling the player.
Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Robin Van Persie were all shipped out before being able to walk on a Bosman, something many anticipated with Alexis.
However, after the Chilean claimed that he was awaiting the club’s position, Wenger has clarified it.
“The decision has been made and we will stick to that – the decision is not to sell,” Wenger told reporters in China.
It’s hard to see Arsene Wenger backtracking on such a statement, especially given that we’re hardly in need of momeny as we were in previous years.
Selling at this point would make it a purely financial situation when football should be our main priority.
