Arsene Wenger says we’ll look to play at the Etihad…

Arsene Wenger has vowed not to reproduce a cautious approach ahead of our visit to league leaders Manchester City as we take-on the most free-scoring team in the league.

Speaking after our goalless draw against Red Star Belgrade, Wenger downplayed the notion that we may have to repeat the display we produced in our 2-0 win at the Etihad in 2015 to clinch the three points.

The boss claimed that while defensive rigidness is required, he promised to stick to the club’s philosophy and take the game to Manchester City when we’re in possession of the ball.

We have a good record against the Premier League favourites, losing only one of our last nine clashes against the 2014 champions.

Wenger also remains the only manager who’s defeated Guardiola at every club he’s managed, with the boss coming out on top in our semi-final meeting in the FA Cup in April.

“We’ll, of course, try to play our game. We’ll not hide,” Wenger told the press.

“When we go there, we’ll want to defend well. But we cannot go there and be focused on only defending. We want as well to play and have the ball and create dangerous situations.

“The best way to defend sometimes is to attack.”

Receiving a tanking is the innate fear we all have as Arsenal fans when we’re travelling to one of our rivals due to past experiences, and Wenger’s words have done very little in soothing those fears.

Man City certainly have the capabilities to replicate what Liverpool did to us, and Wenger’s lineup will tell us if he’s learned from that clash.
